The tops of stairs need to be treated as platforms. You can draw a comparison between this region and the first region of Spelunky but Spelunky possess a camera that's more zoomed out and light is often plentiful (unless you're in one of dark iterations) so I imagine adding lighter environments wouldn't hurt unless it's one of the rare variations of the stage itself. On the topic of instant kill traps, those spike traps in the catacombs are nightmarish given you have burrowing zombies that can, at any point, pop in front of you as you're running through them, blocking you and instantly getting you killed. The young dragon and the goblin chief are fun fights but the worm is madness compared to the other two and could use a tweak. I do not think that falling blocks and spikes in the very first regions of the game is a wise design choice. This isn't what you want the very first parts of your game to be. The first part of this game, the caves, are a chaotic mess. While I understand that some classes should prefer certain weapons over others it is very restricting to lock entire affinity trees to one type of weapon.

The Animal affinity tree for Wildlings seems pointless altogether, all attempts to use it have been met with nothing promising. The Sword affinity tree for Knights is locked to swords which seriously inhibits the use of other weaponry, it'd be far better if such abilities (rolling while striking, striking upwards, 'pogo hopping') were made available to other weaponry like clubs/axes. Standard wands are damn near useless and dedicating an affinity line of level points is wasteful, you're essentially building six levels in the hopes of getting a good wand later down the line. The quality of weapons is incredibly inconsistent. I get that you want to be Spelunky but this game has the potential to be something far better than a Spelunky clone. You don't need to remove it all just tone it the fuck down. The amount of instant death everywhere is unnecessary. Every time I think I'm on a solid run some complete bullshit occurs that fucks me over. This is one of the most unfair and random-dependent roguelikes I have ever played.
